Hazel's House Rescue
Month: May 2026 May 2026 Donation: $365.39

Hazel's House Rescue

Making a difference, one pet at a time...

Hazel's House Animal Rescue takes in cats, dogs and small animals from all over Oregon. We also have a Community Outreach Program that helps with no cost spay/neuters, pet food assistance, emergency veterinary bills and other resources to help keep pets in their loving homes!

Hazel’s House Rescue: The "One More" Mission

The Story: Hazel’s House began in a barn with a single litter of kittens. Now, they’ve saved over 2,000 animals. They specialize in the "underdogs"—like Nina, a sweet black Staffy who spent two years in a shelter because of 'black dog syndrome' before Hazel's House stepped in to find her a forever couch.

The PIFster Perspective: "Hazel’s House lives by the motto #Whatsonemore. They see the beauty in the animals others overlook. Every $1 vote helps provide the medical care and foster homes these 'forgotten' pets need to become someone's best friend.

Help Nikki and Laikan with Medical Costs

Medical cost help
Laikan is a bright, kind, and beautiful 13-year-old who recently experienced a sudden medical emergency when her lung collapsed and required immediate intervention and care. We are asking for your support as she begins her journey toward recovery.
Laikan brings joy and kindness wherever she goes. When people talk about her, they mention her boisterous personality and contagious smile. She and her mother, Nikki, are deeply involved in their local community — faithfully serving their church and school, and supporting local businesses throughout the Valley. Nikki has been a passionate advocate for businesses through her work with local Chambers of Commerce for many years. Anyone who knows these two loves them dearly.
On Tuesday, Laikan suffered a moderate pneumothorax, causing her lung to collapse and sending her body into shock. Doctors successfully inserted a chest tube to help re-inflate her lung, and she was transferred to another hospital for continued monitoring and care. If her lung heals on its own, she will be able to return home. On Friday, doctors will determine whether surgery will be necessary or if she can continue healing without further intervention.
The family is now facing significant upfront insurance costs, along with medical bills that are quickly adding up. Doctors have also shared that this type of condition can sometimes recur, adding to the uncertainty and concern. While we are all praying for complete healing and full recovery, the financial strain during this time is very real.
Nikki and Laikan have always been the first to step up when someone else was in need. Their generosity, kindness, and willingness to serve have touched countless lives. Now, they find themselves in a difficult season and could use the same support they have so freely given to others.
Funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward medical expenses, including the ambulance ride, hospital care, follow-up treatment, food and grocery deliveries, and the income Nikki will lose while taking time off work to care for Laikan. Every dollar will help ease the financial burden so they can focus fully on what matters most — Laikan’s health and recovery.
Thank you in advance for supporting this beautiful family. Nikki and Laikan have blessed so many lives, and now it’s our turn to stand beside them. Your generosity, prayers, and encouragement mean more than words can express.
Thank you for helping Laikan on her journey to healing.

The Mission: Laikan is a vibrant 13-year-old whose world was recently turned upside down by a sudden collapsed lung and medical shock. Her mother, Nikki, is a pillar of the local business community and a tireless advocate for others. After years of being the first to step up when a neighbor was in need, this family is now facing a mountain of medical bills, insurance deductibles, and lost income as Laikan begins her journey toward recovery.

The PIFster Perspective: "Community is a two-way street. For years, Nikki and Laikan have poured their hearts into their church, their schools, and local businesses. Now, they are facing a 'moderate pneumothorax'—a medical emergency that is as frightening as it is expensive. By voting for Laikan’s Recovery, you are ensuring that a mother can focus on her daughter’s healing instead of a hospital invoice. Your $1 is a message to this family that when they fall, the community they helped build is there to catch them.

Boots on the Ground. Smokers Fired Up

In 2011, after an EF5 tornado devastated Joplin, Missouri, a group of competitive pitmasters from eight states answered the call the only way they knew how—by firing up their smokers. For 13 straight days, they fed their pits, slept in their trucks, and served 120,000 hot meals to families and first responders. It wasn’t just about BBQ. It was about bringing comfort, dignity, and hope when everything else was lost. That spirit of service and compassion lives on in every meal we serve today. When disaster strikes, we show up fast – with smokers blazing and hearts wide open. Within 24-48 hours, we’re on the ground providing hot meals that bring comfort, hope, and a sense of normalcy to families and first responders.

The Story: In 2011, when an EF5 tornado leveled Joplin, MO, pitmasters didn't just send thoughts—they sent smoke. They cooked 120,000 meals in 13 days. Today, they deploy within 24 hours of a disaster to feed victims and first responders.

The PIFster Perspective: "When a veteran or a disaster survivor holds a warm plate of BBQ, they aren't just getting calories; they’re getting a reminder that they aren't forgotten. Your $1 keeps the smokers fired up for the next time the 'heavy lifting' gets too hard to bear alone

Support for discharged foster youth 18 - 26
Home of Champions is a 501c3 non-profit organization with a mission to proide a “home base” for New York City and New York state youth ages 18-24 who are emerging from the foster care system. We aim to provide opportunities, resources, and mentoring as well as help foster youth to live an active, consistent and sustained lifestlye. To do this, we need your help. We need to make improvements to our facility in New Paltz, New York – a historic location that was the former home of and training facility for heavyweight boxing world champion. Our goal is to convert the boxing and training facility into the Home of Champions Community Center, which will house leadership, holistic health, and creative arts seminars. This renovation will come at a sizeable cost, so we are looking for your support.

Animal Sanctuary
Our vision for the sanctuary was to create a new paradigm in animal sheltering. Our resident dogs enjoy large, home-like living quarters equipped with heated floors, TVs and couches in every room. They have attached yards so they are free to go outdoors and express their natural behaviors anytime. Whether they are out for a walk, hiking through the hills, playing with their buddies or cuddling in their room with a volunteer, our dogs have daily experiences more similar to a home life than to a shelter. This is the organization that took in an abused pig from our neighborhood.
